The 14th National People’s Gameshave opened.
The sports contest will be held inPyongyang and various other places of the country, divided into professionalsports and general field (category of provinces and category of ministries andnational agencies). Games will be held in dozens of events including football,basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, weightlifting, gymnastics, Taekwon-Do,ice hockey and ssirum during the contest.
The opening ceremony was held atPyongyang Indoor Stadium on February 25.
Present there were Premier Pak ThaeSong, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committeeof the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the National Sports GuidanceCommittee, members of the National Sports Guidance Committee, officialsconcerned, sportspersons and working people.
The national flag of the DPRK washoisted amid the playing of the national anthem of the country.
Kim Il Guk, minister of PhysicalCulture and Sports, made an opening address.
He said that the 14th NationalPeople’s Games will be held to inspire with confidence in victory and optimismthe people of the country who have turned out in the struggle for creation andincreased production in 2025 under the leadership of the great Party CentralCommittee.
Last year, the DPRK sportspeopledemonstrated the dignity and spirit of Juche Korea to the world at severalinternational sporting events including the 2024 FIFA U-17 and U-20 women’sworld cup finals and greatly encouraged the people who turned out in thestruggle for achieving the comprehensive development of Korean-style socialism,he noted.
He stressed that the participants inthe games should fully display the physical and technical abilities theydeveloped with patriotic devotion in the training grounds with a desire tofurther exalt the honour of the country, and their sports techniques honedthrough mass sports activities.
Expressing belief that the contestwould be a significant occasion for further instilling enthusiasm for therevolution and patriotism into all the people waging a dynamic struggle for thecomprehensive national rejuvenation, he declared the 14th National People’sGames open.
At the end of the ceremony, theretook place a march-past of teams and a Taekwon-Do demonstration.
Then followed a men’s volleyballgame between Pyongyang and Ryanggang Province belonging to the general field(category of provinces).
