An increasing number of agricultural workers are being awarded the model agricultural worker honour prize in the DPRK.
The prize instituted in 1989 is annually awarded on the occasion of the greatest national holidays to those agricultural workers who have distinguished themselves in farm work for many years.
Well over a hundred farmers have won the prize this year, said an official of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea.
Among the prize winners are a farmer at Taephyong Farm in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, who has brought about a high yield by throwing herself into the paddy fields under her charge, and a farmer at Hwajang Farm of the South Hamgyong Provincial Rural Economy Committee who has gathered rich harvests in recent years to fulfil his responsibility for filling the nation’s rice granaries.
The list of prize winners also includes scientists and researchers who have made a tangible contribution to the country’s agricultural development.
Sim Hyang Mi, section chief of the Hwasong Agricultural Sci-tech Exchange Centre of the Academy of Agricultural Science, was honoured with the prize for successful tissue cultivation of a new grape variety and prominent research hits presented to the national sci-tech festival.
