Excitement builds in the new urban district inaugurated on April 15 in Pyongyang’s Hwasong area, following the house moving of new dwellers.

The stunning vista of the broad avenues flanked by rolling skyscrapers and high-rise blocks of flats, plus public buildings and neighbourhood-serving amenities, people overwhelmed by gratitude towards the government for providing them gratis with new houses, fine and modern flats built at state expense, pleasing sounds of singing coming out here and there, cheerful dances in different places…

It has become a commonplace that a groundbreaking ceremony is held every year in the capital city, followed by the inauguration event next year.

Over the recent years several streets and residential areas have been built, namely Songhwa Street and Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District in 2022, Hwasong Street and dwelling houses in the Taephyong area in 2023, Rimhung Street and Jonwi Street in 2024, and 10 000 flats at the third stage in the Hwasong area in 2025.

Every street and monumental structure is a cradle of happiness for people, an outcome of the cherished desire of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who is determined to provide the people with more stable and civilized living conditions by building modern dwelling houses on a large scale in the capital city every year.

At the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, he set forth a plan to build a total of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang in five years with 10 000 flats every year. Since then he has shouldered the project as a revolutionary task that should be carried out without fail even under any unfavourable conditions and environment, and attended every groundbreaking ceremony to deliver a speech and press the detonator button, and energetically led the whole course of the construction.

He gave detailed instructions stressing the need to design new things constantly in line with the Party’s intention and the people’s demand and to thoroughly ensure the quality of buildings, and helped bring thousands of architectural layouts into completion, though he was busy with his revolutionary leadership.

As a result, new streets that boast peculiarity, fresh charm and magnificence have sprung up every year.

As he addressed the groundbreaking ceremony for building 10 000 flats at the fourth-stage in the Hwasong area in February this year, Kim Jong Un declared: Housing construction in Pyongyang should continue until the Party’s plan is turned into reality to provide its citizens with perfect conditions for leading a civilized and happy life without any inconvenience.

Thanks to the Party that puts forward the promotion of the people’s wellbeing as the supreme principle of its activities and works hard to this end, Pyongyang is thriving and will be transformed into a more wonderful and brilliant city. The people are full of conviction in and optimism about a new life and new civilization along with the ever-changing appearance of the country.
