One early morning in May 1971 the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il (February 16, 1942-December 17, 2011) visited the Chongsan Cooperative Farm (present-day Chongsan Farm in Kangso District, Nampho Municipality) where the Chongsan Plain is situated.
When he arrived there, the farmers were busy tilling and harrowing in preparation for rice-transplanting.
Standing on the edge of a paddy field veiled in fog, he beckoned a farm official to come close to him, saying that he came there to see the Chongsan Plain.
As the official was deeply moved to see the lower part of his trousers wet with morning dew, Kim Jong Il asked how the preparations for transplanting rice seedlings were made and if the cold-bed rice seedlings were fully grown.
Upon hearing that the cold-bed rice seedlings were grown enough and all preparations for rice-transplanting were made and that the farm planned to start rice-transplanting after three days, he said that Chongsan-ri should set an example for other farms in conducting rice-transplanting in the right season.
Then he began to walk slowly along the ridges.
The official blocked him, asking him to go back as the way ahead was rugged. But he said that he wanted to tread on such a path every day and gave detailed instructions on the issues arising in the successful transplanting.
He said that he would often come there in the future and expressed his expectation and conviction that Chongsan-ri would undergo fresh changes.
