In Japan where suicide is a social trend, another social evil has become rampant. It is called “isolated death” or “lonely death”.
According to information released by the country’s police on April 11, the number of deaths at home under no protection reached 76 020 in 2024. Among them, 58 044 were old people with those over 65 years of age accounting for 76 percent.
It is commonplace in the country that the aged persons live a lonely life being ill-treated by their children and abandoned by the society and die a lonely death.
Since the ideas like “family is not necessary to obtain money” and “let me live for myself” dominate the public thinking and constitute a social trend, such cold-blooded crimes as a grandson murdering his grandparents and a son leaving the dead bodies of his parents at home are occurring in succession.
Therefore, the old people regard it as fortune, rather than misfortune, to be sent out of their families and live alone.
According to a survey group in Japan, most of the single senior citizens said that they feel comfortable to live alone as they are not maltreated by their children and are not worried about being killed by them.
The increasing number of “isolated death” or “lonely death” cases is the inevitable outcome of the Japanese society where extreme misanthropy is widespread.
