The cause of independence for mankind can victoriously advance along the track of development in the face of all ordeals only when there are scientific ideas and theories correctly reflecting the people’s aspirations and ideals.

President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il performed immortal exploits for accomplishing the independence cause and their revolutionary activities conducted on their visit to Indonesia are recorded in their histories of leadership.

The President and the Chairman paid a visit to Indonesia in April 1965 to attend the event held in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the first Asian-African conference (Bandung Conference).

The conference was a meaningful international gathering demonstrating to the world that the people of newly independent countries in Asia and Africa, who had been subjected to maltreatment and oppression, emerged into the global arena as a powerful anti-imperialist independent force. The event to mark the tenth anniversary of the Bandung Conference drew heads of state and government of nearly 40 Asian and African countries and many other prominent figures.

At the meeting with Indonesian President Soekarno, President Kim Il Sung expressed firm support to and solidarity with the anti-imperialist and independent stand and policy of Indonesia and highly praised the spirit of the Bandung Conference reflecting the aspirations of Asian and African people for independence. During the visit, he also met heads of state and government of other countries to encourage Asian and African people in their struggle to eliminate domination, subordination, exploitation and oppression. He delivered an important lecture on the experience gained in building socialism in the DPRK at the Ali Archam Academy of Social Sciences of Indonesia.

On different occasions during his Indonesia visit, Chairman Kim Jong Il stressed the need to develop friendly and cooperative relations between developing countries and make the anti-imperialist independent forces pool their efforts to thwart the hegemony-seeking schemes of the imperialist forces and step up the cause of independence for the masses of the people.

At a meeting with high-ranking officials, important figures and service personnel of Indonesia, he referred to the issues of building up the forces of developing countries and smashing the piecemeal-defeat strategy of the imperialists, who were viciously manoeuvring to check and destroy the unity and cohesion of the anti-imperialist independent forces, with the strategy of unity.

Branding US imperialism as the common enemy of the world people, he clarified the truth of the revolution that they will surely emerge victorious when they unite and fight under the banner of independence. Filled with deep admiration for his idea of independence against imperialism and outstanding wisdom, the Indonesian personages unanimously vowed to always remain faithful to the cause of independence against imperialism and conduct positive activities to further strengthen and develop the friendship between the DPRK and Indonesia.

Afterwards, the Chairman made public “Let Us Strengthen Friendship and Solidarity with the Newly-Emergent Countries” and many other works to give scientific answers to the theoretical and practical issues arising in building up the anti-imperialist independent forces and developing the cause of independence for humankind.

The Indonesia visit by the President and the Chairman was a journey of historic significance that greatly contributed to promoting the unity and solidarity of developing countries and anti-imperialist independent forces around the world and the cause of independence for humankind.
