People have a high opinion of Jong Sun Hwa, chief of the Materials Supply Station for Nurseries and Kindergartens in Haeju, South Hwanghae Province, for her devotion to children and greed for work.
It was 20 years ago when Jong was appointed the chief of the station. Making the rounds of the station, she pondered over what to do in the future.
Back at home, she stayed up late at night engrossed in the thought.
The following morning, Jong explained to her employees about her decision to build a vegetable greenhouse and mushroom cultivation ground as part of the effort to lay a solid material foundation for the station. She called for additionally supplying meat and other subsidiary foodstuffs to the nurseries and kindergartens in the city on a regular basis by the station’s own effort. However, her call got a lukewarm response from the employees, who feared they should be engaged in building beyond their main duty of supplying foodstuffs. Moreover, most of them were female.
“Of course, I know that it is an uphill task for us. But if you work harder to feed your own children more meat and foodstuffs, you will be happy about it,” she persuaded.
Jong eventually won the hearts of all.
After delivering milk to nurseries and kindergartens they all went to the construction site. Tired as she was, Jong was the first to go to the site and often skipped meals to solve the shortages of building materials.
Meanwhile, she pushed ahead with the work to reclaim tens of hectares in the vicinity of the city into a base of producing raw materials and established a production line of highly nutritious condensed milk with the help of researchers in the relevant fields.
With such a sense of responsibility for the children in the city, Jong led the employees to spruce up the station in a short span of time and built up the material foundation of the station—a dairy goods production ground, vegetable greenhouse, animal shed, large-capacity freezing chamber and milk powder storehouse.
Today many people are visiting the station to learn after their experience.
Jong Sun Hwa always says to her employees that they should devote themselves with conscience in order to be boundlessly loyal to the duty they assumed for the times.
