One day in October 2020, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited a construction site of dwelling houses in Choso-ri township, Kimhwa County, Kangwon Province.
When he was feasting his eyes on a panoramic view of the village nestling among foothills, an official told him that the township was located at the picturesque site.
Hearing him, he looked round the village again. He saw a thick grove of cedars on a mountain before the village. The trees seemed to have grown well over tens of years.
After a moment of silence, he asked an accompanying official who planted the pine-nut trees and how old they were.
The official replied that over four decades before a senior official of the county had planted and tended them together with local residents.
Saying that the official had done a worthwhile job, Kim Jong Un highly appreciated his deed.
He noted that Chairman Kim Jong Il had said that such an official could be called a patriot, and lauded the official as a patriot in recognition of his contribution to creating a large area of cedar forest about four decades before.
There is a similar story. Kim Jong Un always puts forward those who think of national affairs ahead of their household ones and work through thick and thin for afforestation.
When he visited the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill, he felt from the trees in the compound the patriotic mind of a former official of the mill who had devoted himself unassumingly to growing them, and highly appreciated his effort. Once on his visit to Hoechang County, he saw densely wooded forests. Counting the growth rings of a tree, he read the love of the country cherished by the locals who worked hard to ensure the coming generations benefit from them even though they couldn’t enjoy the benefits in their own generation.
Thanks to such love and trust, the ranks of patriots are swelling on this land.
