The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the newly-built Sunchon Catfish Farm in November 2017.
Going round the farm, he said with great satisfaction that the farm was built in a neat and tidy way and at the best place where warm water needed for the growth of catfish, a species living in warm water, can be provided on a constant basis as it is designed to use the waste water from the Sunchon Thermal Power Plant.
He dropped in at the sci-tech learning space.
Acquainting himself with its operation while seeing a computer, he asked an official what site the computer was connected to.
Having been told that it was connected to the site of the Pyongyang Catfish Farm on the national network, he asked again if there was a site dedicated solely to fish farming.
At that time, with no special site devoted to fish farming, if someone wanted to get any information concerning catfish farming they would visit the site of the Pyongyang Catfish Farm.
On hearing about this, he said: It would not be a great help for the Sunchon Catfish Farm to consult the site of the Pyongyang Catfish Farm alone in putting catfish farming on a scientific basis. It is needed to set up a national site dedicated to fish farming and post on it the world’s latest sci-tech materials on fish farming and the materials from the Pyongyang Catfish Farm and other farms separately.
If then, he added, the Sunchon Catfish Farm will be able to raise catfish based on science with a correct understanding of different problems, more specifically how the feed problem has been solved, what has been updated in feed provision and what has been introduced so as to informatize production and business activities, with the help of the up-to-date global sci-tech information on the site.
He stressed the need to encourage the catfish farms to be built in provinces to visit the site to keep abreast of the world’s latest developments of fish farming and learn from the successes and experience the Pyongyang Catfish Farm, the Sunchon Catfish Farm and other farms gained in their production and business activities, thus putting catfish farming on a scientific basis.
