February 16 is the birthday of the great leader Kim Jong Il.
He was born in the Paektusan Secret Camp on February 16, 1942.
At that time, the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle was being waged around Mt. Paektu in Korea.
His father is the great leader Kim Il Sung who was the commander of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and his mother is the anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk.
The news of his birth in Mt. Paektu spread all over the country like a legend.
Hearing the news behind time, the embarrassed Japanese imperialists attempted to suppress the public excitement. A document of the Japanese imperialist police wrote on the following public sentiment at that time: "This heaven-born son is said to be a general who will liberate Korea. Korea will be liberated in the near future. All turn out to achieve it."
Like this, the news of Kim Jong Il's birth as the son of guerrillas gave hope and confidence to the Korean people and great anxiety and fear to the Japanese imperialists.
The guerrillas were the first to wish him a happy future.
His patched quilt was made by women guerrillas with cotton from their padded uniforms and his toys by men guerrillas.
He built up his courage, seeing military uniforms of the guerrillas, listening to their words of command and singing their war songs.
The anti-Japanese guerrillas called him a "young general".
Born into a family of guerrillas, Kim Jong Il grew up listening to the gun report of the anti-Japanese war as a lullaby.
The noble moral obligation and indomitable faith of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters served as a valuable spiritual nourishment to his life.
