The area of Mt Paektu (2 750 metres above sea level), located in Ryanggang Province in the northern highlands of Korea, is dotted with many revolutionary battle sites.
The area served as a strategic and leadership base where Comrade Kim Il Sung led the anti-Japanese armed struggle between the second half of the 1930s and the first half of the 1940s.
A growing number of people—workers, youth and students and servicepersons of the Korean People’s Army—visit the area to cherish the glorious revolutionary traditions of the Workers’ Party of Korea which were pioneered on Mt Paektu as firsthand experience, not as memories of bygones.
Last month alone, many people from all walks of life, including officials from the trade union, women’s union and youth league organizations as well as from industrial establishments and educational institutions across the country, made a study tour of the revolutionary battle sites in the area.
Visitors march along the tour route covering well over a hundred kilometres and lined with the Pochonbo Revolutionary Battle Site, the Samjiyon Revolutionary Battle Site, the Taehongdan Revolutionary Battle Site and other battle sites permeated with the traces of the anti-Japanese war and the noble soul of the revolutionary forerunners, while making the rounds of bivouacs, sites of campfire and slogan-bearing trees. In the course of this, they come to have a deep understanding of the noble patriotism, indomitable revolutionary spirit and the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude displayed by the anti-Japanese fighters.
In particular, they experience knifing winter cold of Mt Paektu, thinking how much the cold weather could have stoked the revolutionary enthusiasm of the anti-Japanese forerunners, and keenly feel the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, the spirit of the blizzards of Paektu.
Standing on the sacred mountain of the Korean revolution, they renew their firm faith and will to defend the revolutionary traditions of Paektu forever and carry them forward generation after generation while supporting the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un with loyalty, following the example of the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners who were boundlessly loyal to Kim Il Sung .
